Born thousands of kilometres apart inside of two different ancient medical traditions, Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine, both went on to become respected academic and research scientists in pharmaceutical development.

Growing up in Hong Kong, Yun Tam was fascinated with his personal experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine. The herbs, roots and plants being used in multiple combinations to treat ailments small and large drew his curiosity.

How did the ingredients work? How did they know what to combine to achieve a result? How could they prove that it worked? What is the link between traditional paradigm and modern science?

As his path towards a career as a research pharmacist and academic developed, this question still nagged at him. His partner, Nuzhat Tam-Zaman, from Bangladesh, shared his passion. Before she became a PhD candidate in Pharmacology, her Masters study was on the anti-inflammatory effects of the bark from a tree used by healers in her native Bangladesh.

This shared passion led them to found Sinoveda together to understand the science behind natural ingredients and create solutions to a multitude of health challenges.

Through the development of groundbreaking approaches to decoding nature, they are able to explain why certain natural products work and how to take the power of nature, use science to optimize it and provide relief of suffering.
